Motion Corpse
Blend 2015 in Vancouver was a truly inspirational experience for me. Not only did I get to hear from industry giants, but more rewarding was the lasting friendships that I was able to build after the conference. Maybe it was because we were all a little more "grown-up" (old really) that Nol Honig, Jesper Bolther and I became great friends in the months that followed. We had this idea for a collaborative motion graphics game based on the Surrealist parlor game Exquisite Corpse. The game was for each of us to animate 5 seconds and then put it together to see what would happen. The twist of the game is that you have to pass on your last frame to the next person and they have to start from that frame they were given. Everyone worked in secret and would not see what the final animation was until it all came together. After our first test round, we asked some friends if they would be interested to play, and what happened next really took us three by surprise. The popularity of the game spread like wild fire and soon we had a waiting list of over 100 artist from all over the world wanting to play the game! For some beginning artist the game was a great opportunity to collaborate with other artist within a fun and safe environment. Some of our favorite animators joined the fun like Jr Canest, Ariel Costa, Phil Borst, Allen Laseter, Emanuele Colombo, Bee Grandinetti and so many others!
